Sports tourism brings visitors, economic impact to Cabarrus
April 22, 2025CONCORD, N.C. (April 2, 2025) – Last month, diners in Cabarrus County, North Carolina tasted and voted on limited-time burger creations from 20 of the area’s local restaurants during the fifth annual Cabarrus Burger Madness. After 31 days of burger bliss, Lee’s Sandwich Shop in Kannapolis has been named the 2025 champion!
The winning “Beer and Bourbon Burger” was seasoned with a brown sugar and bourbon mixture, topped with made-from-scratch beer cheese, and loaded with crispy onion petals, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and fresh-cut jalapeno bacon, all between a pretzel bun.
“The enthusiasm and engagement surrounding this year’s competition was extraordinary,” said Donna Carpenter, Cabarrus County CVB President and CEO. “Our restaurant partners, community and visitors are the heart of this initiative, and we’re grateful for all who joined in on the fun to make 2025 a winning year for everyone.”
This year’s competition featured the largest lineup to date and included two returning champions and seven restaurants entering for the first time. Collectively, participating restaurants sold more than 5,000 specialty burgers. Passholders from seven states utilized the free mobile pass to track their culinary adventure and two passholders checked in at every participating restaurant!
The Cabarrus County CVB launched Cabarrus Burger Madness in 2021 to support local restaurants amid the pandemic. Now five years in, the friendly competition remains a highly anticipated month-long event for the jaw-dropping burgers and community spirit it creates.
Until Cabarrus Burger Madness returns in March 2026, diners are encouraged to explore even more of the destination’s culinary offerings and support local restaurants year-round. More information on dining in Cabarrus County can be found at ExploreCabarrus.com/eat.
