(August 7, 2009) – Kannapolis, NC – The Cabarrus County Tourism Authority Board announces its selection of Donna Carpenter of Concord as the new President and CEO of the Cabarrus County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Carpenter comes to the Bureau with over 11 years of experience in destination management, most recently as Director of Tourism and Partnership Development for over five years with Visit Charlotte. Prior to this, she was Executive Director of the Stanly County Convention & Visitors Bureau and Director of Sports and Public Relations for York County Convention & Visitors Bureau. Her background also includes three years as Executive Director for the Fort Mill Chamber of Commerce.

Terry Crawford, Cabarrus County Tourism Authority Board Chair, indicates the board’s enthusiasm for Carpenter, her experience and commitment to the area.

“The search is over, and we are happy to be making this announcement,” Crawford notes. “Donna’s experience in the industry, knowledge of our region and ties to the community are all strong assets she brings to the position. We welcome her aboard.”

Living in Concord and working in the region’s tourism industry gives Carpenter an insider’s knowledge of Cabarrus tourism’s dynamic growth and the challenges that lie ahead.

“I have a real vested interest in the Cabarrus community, and I am excited for the opportunity to be part of such a growing destination and region,” she notes. “The potential for future leisure, meeting and business travel is huge, and the opportunities are endless.”

The Cabarrus County Convention & Visitors Bureau is a destination marketing organization funded by the transient occupancy tax collected by Cabarrus County hotels. Its mission is to gain and retain visitors to Cabarrus County, increase visitor awareness, encourage visitor expenditures, and enhance Cabarrus County’s tax base and image through destination marketing.
